As University of Malaya is the premier teaching institution of the country, Plastic Surgery UMMC is also involved teaching a wide range of students.
- UM medical students
- Each UM medical student will be rotated for 2 days in the whole of their medical education for exposure to Plastic Surgery.
- Plastic Unit also receives at least 2 medical students for 2 months of pre-housemanship training each year from UM final year medical student.
- All surgeons in UMMC hold the post of lecturers in the Department of Surgery. They are expected to be involved in teaching of topics in general surgery and academic matters.
- External medical students
- We receive local and foreign medical students for short term elective attachment.

- Postgraduate/Specialty students
- Our centre is involved in training Plastic Surgery, General Surgery, Maxillofacial, ENT and Orthopaedics postgraduate students in 2 to 3 months rotations.
- Currently, we are planning to start the Master of Plastic Surgery (MPlastSurg) UM.
- Fellowship
- We offer fellowship in Plastic Surgery, especially for reconstruction and microsurgery.
